Used in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions which are characterized by increased amounts of lactate in body fluids.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: Whole Blood

Container/Collection Tube: Dark Green (no gel- sodium heparin) on wet ice

Specimen Volume: 1 mL

Pedatric Volume: 200 uL

 

Specimen cannot be collected at clinics. Testing is for in-house specimens only.

Transport Requirements

 Keep specimen on wet ice and transport ASAP to laboratory.

Maximum Stability: 30 minutes on wet ice

Reference Values

0.7-2.1 mmol/L

Critical Value (automatic call back): >4.0 mmol/L
