Useful For

To remove (or "dissociate") an antibody that is attached to the surface of a red blood cell, freeing it for laboratory identification.  This procedure is most comonly used in identification of complicated antibodies, sometimes in the workup of transfusion reactions or hemolytic disease of the newborn, as well as in the workup of warm autoantibodies.

Specimen Requirements

Specimen Type: EDTA

Container/Tube: Whole Blood EDTA

Preferred: Pink-top (EDTA) tube

Acceptable:Purple-top (EDTA) tube

Specimen Volume: 10 mL whole blood

 

Collection instructions: Specimen's must be labeled with patient first and last name, MR# or DOB, date and time drawn, and phlebotomist's initials.
