Useful For
Urinalysis measurements are used to aid in the diagnosis of metabolic disorders, kidney function anomalies, urinary tract infections, and liver function.
Specimen Requirements
- First morning clean-catch urine is optimal. Fresh, random specimen and catheter urine specimen also acceptable.
- Optimal volume is 12mL. Minimum volume is 1mL. Note: Urine culture orders and reflexes will require an additional 1mL of urine.
- Collect in sterile collection cup or UA Preservative Transport Tube (see Specimen Stability below)
- Avoid contamination of specimen with soap, feces, oil, or powder.
- Label collection container with patient full name, medical record number, date of birth. Include date and time of collection and source of specimen.

Any specimen that does not adhere to specimen requirements listed above will be rejected.

Specific Gravity: 1.005-1.030
pH: 5.0-8.0
Glucose: negative (reported as negative, trace, 1+, 2+, or 3+)
Bilirubin: negative (reported as negative, 1+, 2+, or 3+)
Ketones: negative (reported as negative, trace, 1+, 2+, or 3+)
Albumin: negative
Urobilinogen: normal (reported as normal, 1, 4, 8, or 12 mg/dL)
Nitrate: negative (reported as positive or negative)
Blood: negative (reported as negative, trace, 1+, 2+, 3+, or 4+)
Leukocytes: negative (reported as negative, trace, 1+, or 2+)
