Order Code LABHCSFV Hold CSF Vials

Useful For

This is a hold order for cerebrospinal fluid collected via lumbar puncture or foreign body shunt.

Specimen Requirements

2 mL of spinal fluid collected from lumbar puncture using an aseptic technique. Divide spinal fluid into 4 screw-capped, sterile vials each containing 0.5 mL, and send refrigerated. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Label the specimen with the patient's name, date of birth, or hospital medical record number, specimen source, date and time of collection, and collector's initials if a EPIC provided label is not available.

Please ensure that the labeling on each EPIC corresponds accurately to the sequence in which the CSF screw cap tube was obtained.
 

Specimen Stability

Maintain sterility and forward promptly to the laboratory.
