Useful For
Diagnosing and managing diabetes mellitus and other carbohydrate metabolism disorders including gestational diabetes, neonatal hypoglycemia, idiopathic hypoglycemia, and pancreatic islet cell carcinoma
Specimen Requirements
Special Note: Spin down specimen within two hours of draw. Glucose decreases 5-8% every hour of uncentrifugation.
Particulate matter (for example, fibrin) in sufficient quantity may coat the spreading layer and limit diffusion of oxygen, causing a negative interference. To minimize particulate matter, do not centrifuge specimens until clotting is complete.
