Useful For
Assessing calcium states and as a second-order test in evaluation of patients with abnormal calcium values
Specimen Requirements
Special Note: Specimen must arrive in laboratory within 6 hours of collection for testing performed at Ridgeview Medical Center Laboratory.
Specimens transported to laboratory > 6 hours after collection are sent to Mayo Medical Laboratories for testing. See CAI Calcium, Ionized, Serum for specimen requirements.
RMC testing: Draw blood in a dark green-top (lithium heparin) tube, and send whole blood. Plasma gel tube is not acceptable. Do not remove cap. Specimen must be kept anaerobic until ready to test.
Note: Indicate time of draw on request form.
