Specimen Requirements
Urine and plasma or serum are required. Blood specimen should be drawn during 24-hour period of urine collection.
Urine
10 mL from a well-mixed, 24-hour urine collection. No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection.
- 24-Hour volume, time of collection, and patient’s height and weight are required.
- Follow instructions in Urine Collection in Special Instructions.
Blood
Specimen Type: Plasma or Serum
Preferred: Green-top (lithium heparin) gel tube.
Acceptable: Plain, red-top tube or SST
Specimen Volume: 2 mL
Pediatric (minimum) volume: 0.5 mL
