Useful For
Aids in the diagnosis of joint disease, systemic disease, inflammation, malignancy, infection, and trauma. Includes cell count and differential. Testing for crystals, culture, and chemistry are not included in this analysis and must be ordered separately.
Specimen Requirements
Please collect/transfer 1 mL of synovial fluid in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube. Invert gently several times to mix fluid.
- Indicate synovial fluid on request form.
- Label specimen with patient’s name, date of birth or hospital medical record number, specimen source, date and time of collection, and collector’s initials.
