Specimen Requirements

Special Note: Phenytoin specimens should be drawn just before the next dose for trough values. If toxicity is suspected, specimens may be drawn at any time.

Do not store specimen on gel barrier

Collection Container/Tube:

Preferred: Plain, red-top tube (SST unacceptable)

Specimen Volume: 2 mL

Pediatric (minimum) volume: 0.5 mL in a red top MICROTAINER tube
