Useful For

Examination for pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis)

Specimen Requirements

Collect specimen as follows using the Falcon SWUBE Pinworm Paddle:

  1. Specimen is best obtained between the hours of 9 p.m. and midnight or upon waking and before bowel movement or bath.
  2. Hold paddle by cap and remove it from tube.
  3. Separate buttocks and press tacky surface against several areas of perianal region.
  4. Replace paddle in tube for transport to laboratory.
  5. Label tube with patient’s name, date of birth or hospital medical record number, date and time of collection, and collector’s initials.
  6. If there is a delay in transport of >1 day, send specimen refrigerated.

Note:  Pinworm eggs are very infectious. Wash hands after collection.
