Important Note

Specimen source is required.

Swab specimen must be collected using a cobas PCR Media Dual Kit.

Useful For

Detection of Chlamydia trachomatis/ Neisseria gonorrhoeae from the following sources: endocervix, vaginal, and urine.
Other sources like oropharynx/pharynx/throat, Male Urethra, rectal/anal -please order LABCGRNA and collect using an Aptima Swab.

Specimen Requirements

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:

 

Swab specimen must be collected using a cobas PCR Media Dual Kit.  

Warning:  Do NOT pre-wet any swab in cobas PCR Media before collection.

 

Specimen Type: Endocervix

Container/Tube: cobas PCR Media Dual Swab Sample Kit

Specimen Volume: Flocked Swab

Collection Instructions:

1. Use woven swab (swab A) to remove excess mucus from endocervix and discard.

2. Insert flocked swab (swab B) 1 to 1.5 cm into endocervical canal, and rotate swab 5 times in one direction. Avoid touching vaginal wall when removing swab.

3. Place flocked swab into transport tube provided in collection kit. Snap off swab at score line so swab fits into closed tube.

4. Cap tube securely, and label tube with patient's entire name, and date and time of collection.

5. Transport and store swab container at 2 to 30° C.

Rejection criteria:  2 swabs in collection device, No swab in collection device, Frozen specimen

 

Specimen Type: Vaginal

Container/Tube: cobas PCR Media Dual Swab Sample Kit (DO NOT USE FLOCKED SWAB)

Specimen Volume: Woven swab

Collection Instructions:

1. Insert woven swab (swab A) about 5 cm past introitus and rotate gently for 30 seconds.

2. Place swab into transport tube provided in collection kit. Snap off swab at score line so swab fits into closed tube.

3. Cap tube securely, and label tube with patient's entire name, and date and time of collection.

4. Transport and store swab container at 2 to 30° C.

Rejection criteria:  2 swabs in collection device, No swab in collection device, Frozen specimen

 

Specimen Type: Urine

Container/Tube: cobas PCR Urine Sample Kit 

Specimen Volume: Provide 10 to 50ml of initial urine stream.
*Note: If intial (dirty) urine specimen cannot be transferred immediately to the Cobas PCR urine sample kit, the specimen can be stored at 2°C to 30°C for up to 24 hrs.
 

Collection Instructions:

1. Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to collection.

2. Patient should collect first portion of random voided urine (first part of stream) into a sterile, plastic, preservative-free container.

3. Transfer urine into the urine specimen transport tube using the disposable pipette provided within 24 hours of collection. The correct volume of urine has been added when the fluid level is between the black fill lines on the urine transport tube.

4. Transport and store preserve specimen transport container at 2 to 30° C for up to 12 months.

Rejection criteria:  Underfilled urine collection tube or frozen specimen
