Detection and identification of pathogenic organisms in tissue.
Specimen Requirements
Unpreserved specimen must arrive within 8 hours of collection and refrigerated, or within 24 hours of collection if in aerobic transport media.
- Using aseptic technique, collect tissue from affected site.
- Place specimen in a screw-capped, sterile container. Do not use formalin.
- Label specimen with patient’s name, date of birth or hospital medical record number, specimen source, date and time of collection, and collector’s initials.
