PRIOR TO 8/1/21: FMBS
Useful For
The fetal screen test relies on the D antigen, this test is valid only when an Rh negative mother delivers and Rh positive infant. FMBS is used to detect fetomaternal hemorrages greater than 30 mL of whole blood utilizing the rosette technique. FMBS tests interpreted as positive are followed with a second sample for Kleihauer-Betke testing (sent to reference lab) to calulate the appropriate dosage of Rh immune globulin, based on the estimated volume of fetal whole blood or red blood cells in maternal circulation.
