Used in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions which are characterized by increased amounts of lactate in body fluids.
Specimen Requirements
Special Note: Specimen cannot be collected offsite (clinics)
Note:
- For fluoride oxalate plasma, specimens must be collected in tubes that are at least half full. Smaller volumes can result in negative biases.
- Venous specimens should be obtained without the use of a tourniquet or immediately after the tourniquet is applied. Alternatively, the tourniquet should be removed after the puncture has been performed, and the blood should be allowed to circulate for several minutes before the sample is withdrawn.

Container/Collection Tube: Grey top (fluoride oxalate), not on ice
Specimen Volume: 1 mL plasma
Minumim (Pedatric) Volume: 200 uL plasma
Specimen Stability
Special Note: Transport ASAP to laboratory. Centrifuge and remove the plasma from the cellular material wihtin 15 minutes of collection.
