Order Code LABRPRREV Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) with Reflex to RPR Titer or T. pallidum Antibody by Particle Agglutination

Additional Codes

ARUP Test Code:2007443

Treponema Total Antibody Test:  LABRPRREV

Useful For

Reflex from LABTRPAB  to confirm a reactive or equivocal treponemal screening test (eg, CIA, EIA) when using the reverse testing algorithm to screen for syphilis.

Specimen Requirements

Collect: Serum separator tube (SST).

Specimen Preparation: Separate serum from cells ASAP or within 2 hours of collection. Transfer 1 mL serum to an ARUP standard transport tube. (Min: 0.5 mL).  Avoid freezing if possible.

Storage/Transport Temperature: Refrigerated.

Specimen Stability

After separation from cells: Ambient: 48 hours; Refrigerated: 2 weeks; Frozen: 1 year (avoid repeated freeze/thaw cycles)

Rejection Criteria

Unacceptable Conditions: Plasma, CSF, or other body fluids.

Reference Values

Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR): Nonreactive

Treponema pallidum Antibody by TP-PA: Nonreactive

NOTE: if RPR is reactive, then a titer to endpoint will be added. If RPR is nonreactive, a TP-PA (MHA) confirmation will be added. Additional charges apply.
