Order Code SEND TO METHODIS CALL LAB Platelet Function Analysis (PFA), Blood
Specimen Requirements
Order code PFA on Pathway form.
Specimen must arrive at Methodist Hospital Laboratory within 3 hours of draw. Call Methodist Pathways Laboratory at 952-993-5000 before sending specimen.
Note: When ordering PFA, also order PLT Platelets, Blood. Testing can only be done if platelet count is >100,000 x 103/mm3.
EDTA and sodium citrate whole blood are required.
EDTA Blood
Draw blood in a 3-mL lavender-top (EDTA) tube supplied by Methodist with a 21-gauge needle or larger, and send at least 3 mL of EDTA whole blood. Invert several times to mix blood. Do not centrifuge. (Specimen drawn in tube other than 3-mL EDTA supplied by laboratory or line draw is not acceptable.) Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: Do not send specimen through pneumatic tube system.
Sodium Citrate Blood
Draw 2 full, 2.7-mL light blue-top (sodium citrate) tube supplied by Methodist with a 21-gauge needle or larger, and send sodium citrate whole blood. Allow tube to fill completely. Invert gently several times to mix blood. Do not uncap tube. Do not centrifuge. (Specimen drawn in tube other than 2.7-mL sodium citrate supplied by laboratory or line draw is not acceptable.) Forward promptly at ambient temperature only.
Note: Do not send specimen through pneumatic tube system.
